Thank you for visiting. My name is Sergei Kolomeitsev and I’m
hoping this website will give you an opportunity to learn a little
bit about my professional background.
I have over thirty years of experience in development of new electric motors and drives. During this time, I have authored 27 patents which resulted in significant financial benefits to clients and employers. In-depth expertise includes virtually all types of electric motors: Asynchronous Induction, Switched Reluctance, PM Brushless AC and DC, PM Brush Type, and others. Motor power in projects ranged from 4 Watt Hard Drive Spindle Motor to 700 kW Locomotive Traction Drive.
I established Advanced Motors Electromagnetics (AME) several years ago. At AME, we focus on motors and drives. We design, optimize, and customize motors to specific needs of clients. AME was established to help companies develop technology of tomorrow in wind turbines, hybrids & electric vehicles, aerospace, oil pumps, electricity grids, industrial applications, locomotives, scooters, electric motorcycles, and other applications. I personally specialize in motor design, electromagnetic virtual prototyping, motor optimization, cost reduction, and due diligence.
Prior to establishing AME, I led innovation efforts at Raser (now Via Motors) and Moog. At Raser, I conceived an idea that resulted in a 56% higher hot ambient output and 10% higher efficiency for a Heavy Duty Automotive Brushless Alternator of the same frame size. At Moog, highlights include introducing an approach which resulted in an increase of torque and power density up to 20% in weight critical electromechanical actuators.
Before Moog and Raser, I worked at Valeo. At Valeo, accomplishments include proposing and patenting motor and control architectures for Three Phase and Two Phase fail-safe Brushless Drives for Electric Power Steering applications. At Valeo, I also established the foundation for the company’s Rare Earth PM Motors’ Cost Design Optimization techniques, which allowed the company to significantly increase its design cost effectiveness.
Prior to Valeo, I worked at Prestolite Electric Inc. and Dana Corporation. At Prestolite, I led the development of new generation of high performance core products such as high power density Brushless Alternators, Switched Reluctance Traction Drives, and Brush DC Axial flux PM motors. At Dana, my role was in charge of leading the company’s key electric motors development team and provided expertise in electromagnetic area with focus on Switched Reluctance Motors and their control algorithms.
Before moving to America and working at Dana, I was the Head of
Railway Research Laboratory at Rostov Railway State University in
Russia. In Russia, I developed innovative electromechanical devices
for the Russian Railway Systems, including robotics and traction
applications.
I received my PhD in Electromagnetics from Novocherkask
Polytechnick Institute. My PhD thesis was on High Harmonics of
Parasitic Torque and Stray Load Losses in Squirrel-Cage
Asynchronous Motors.
